Minik Bidstrup
– Silara – My Sila

Silara – My Sila is a personal project delving into the psychological space photographer Minik Bidstrup has found himself in over the past few years, which has only intensified during the pandemic. Feelings of being lost and a longing for silence and calmness in the chaos have been on his mind. The project is a series of black and white still images, produced every day, mostly between 10 p.m. and 4 a.m. in New York City, USA, starting March 15, 2020. Sila is a Pan-Inuit word with a variety of meanings including consciousness, the universe, the world, the weather, the air, and the space outside.

Minik Bidstrup was born in 1990 in Upernavik, Greenland and is currently based in New York, USA. Bidstrup has studied at the European Film College in Ebeltoft, Denmark as well as at Fatamorgana – The Danish School of Art Photography in Copenhagen, Denmark. He completed the Visual Journalism and Documentary Practice Program at the International Center of Photography in 2020.
